Der Kommunikationsdienst Google Wave wurde (ähnliche wie zuvor Instant Messaging, Social Networks und Twitter) bereits als E‑Mail Killer gehandelt. Spätens seit dem Start der Closed Beta Phase zeichnet sich jedoch ab, dass Wave in erster Linie für Poweruser interessant ist — und selbst die reagieren teilweise etwas zurückhaltend.
So zieht zum Beispiel ausgerechnet der Social Media Experte Robert Scoble nach einem Test ein ernüchterndes Fazit und weist auf die Schwächen des Dienstes im Vergleich zur E‑Mail hin:
